Job Summary
The purpose of the Route Supervisor position is to assist the Service Manager in managing route and fleet
operations for an Angelica service center. This position is responsible for supervision of drivers (Route
Service Representatives), establishing routes, building and maintaining customer relationships, resolving
problems, and maintaining the fleet to ensure excellent customer service.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain constant contact with Route Service Representatives (RSRs), scale operators (clean &
soil), service center and office management staff, external service providers and customers
Assist, as needed, in fleet management activities including maintaining and monitoring driver and
vehicle records, delivery documentation, truck maintenance, and costs
Help manage, train and coordinate Route Service Representatives to meet and exceed operating
and customer satisfaction objectives, often including daily meetings and monthly route
observations
Monitor Route Service Representative performance by conducting daily one-on-one meetings and
monthly route observations to perform time studies and ensure budgeted hours are appropriate for
predetermined routes
Develop and optimize route structure to maximize customer service and control distribution
expense as a percentage of revenue, including daily review of DOT trip sheets, timecards,
comparison to Saucon GPS report, and rearranging stops among RSRs as needed to stay within
budgeted parameters
Structure documentation of, delivery of, and receipt of materials as part of the Turn-In process,
including checking RSRs' paperwork, ensuring accounts have consignment notes, completing
Correction Tickets as needed, and issuing credit for Reject Linen
Assist with measurement and documentation of customer satisfaction issues related to delivery of
materials, including customer visitation and call report documentation
Manage Par Levels at each designated account, including completing daily Par Sheet Inventory
and making next deliveries order for all accounts along with quarterly Par Level adjustments in
linen room and on RSRs' Par Sheet
Analyze data to evaluate and coach team members towards performance improvement in areas
including product penetration, service commitments and productivity
Assist with compliance to company and insurance carrier policies and directives, including
assisting with monthly training and Safety In-Services
Assist with compliance to Federal and State DOT regulations, including monitoring Drivers
Licenses and medical cards
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position manages Route Service Representatives, Scale Operators and Vehicle Loaders. The Route
Supervisor is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees within
a specific geographic area.
Travel Required
The Route Supervisor works in an office environment within the service center, with some auto travel to
customer locations. Travel is expected to take up 10% of work time, typically requiring riding with Route
Service Representatives to evaluate work practices, vehicle performance, and meeting with customers.
Employees are responsible for creating and submitting expense reports each week for expenditures
incurred during travel.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Associates Degree, with college courses in business and transportation/distribution
2-5 years experience in a sales and customer service environment
Knowledge of transportation/distribution, including regulatory requirements relating to drivers
and vehicles
Good human relations skills to work with subordinates, managers, sales personnel, and customers
Exceptional communication, presentation and training skills
Proficient in performance measurement and goal attainment
Self reliant and motivated professional, with good follow through capabilities
Proficient in MS Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory experience
Class A Commercial Driver's License
Work Environment
This position works predominantly within an office environment, although may substitute for drivers and
participate in delivery and pick-up of materials. The position requires considerable sitting, standing and
walking. Physical demands are constant and can involve lifting and handling linens (clean and soiled) and
textile products of up to 50-70 pounds. The position requires the ability to communicate in person,
telephonically and via email.
