Bose 901 Equalizer Clean ULTRA RARE IV B! V VI ! for sale in Pawtucket, RI
This is the rarest of any Bose 901 equalizer by a long shot. It also happens to be in very nice condition. Obviously had a sheltered life. Below is information I found on Audiokarma as provided by Bose. I opened this up and you can see for yourself that it does not look like a standard 901 IV board. This has qualities of series V / VI inside, the sliders are absolutely not the type used on the series IV eq (these are totally smooth in operation like series V and VI, no clicks like the IV had). Please see the very last photo for a picture of a regular Series 901 IV equalizer. There are very obvious differences, I am not a tech but I know a little about these and I took pics for anyone who really knows what they are looking at. The caps etc look different. I tested it on my series VI 901's and it sounds beautiful. It actually seems to have a slightly higher output than my series VI equalizer but I otherwise could not tell the difference in the sound. To me, it sounds like my series VI equalizer in other words. I planned to keep this on hand as a back up for my series VI but I know I will not need it as the eq I have is so reliable, so this one is offered so someone who needs one. While this does specify series IV (III too as we all know) my hunch is it would be fine on any series after 901 Series II. It certainly sounded great with my series VI. Ships USPS priority or Fedex. the 901 Series IV speakers were made between 1978 and 1983. The 901 Series V speakers were introduced in 1983 and were in production until 1987 (these and the series VI have an interchangeable equalizer). In late 1983, right before the 901 Series V speakers (and 901 Series V EQ) were introduced into the market, Bose ran out of inventory on the 901 Series IV EQ. Therefore, the company had to make a very small, limited release of 901 Series IV-B EQ's. The EQ was in the soon to be released 901 Series V chassis, but internally, it had the EQ curve of the 901 Series IV EQ...and had a name stamp on the back that stated 901 Series IV-B. There was never a 901 Series IV-B speaker, only an EQ. So there you have it, it was an EQ that was designed to be used with the 901 Series IV speakers (or the 901 Series III speakers) that had a new chassis that was going to be used for the Series V, but internally, had an EQ curve of the 901 Series IV EQ (just to meet customer demand when Bose ran out of stock on the 901 Series IV EQ's).
